Shillong, May 19: The Meghalaya State Food Commission (MSFC), in collaboration with the Sub-Divisional Office (Civil) in Rongjeng, recently organised a regional camp aimed at reinforcing food security in the East Garo Hills district.
In his speech, Commission’s chairman Donald P Wahlang emphasised the critical role of the MSFC in overseeing the implementation of various food security schemes across governmental departments. This includes monitoring the Public Distribution System (PDS) under the Food and Civil Supplies Department, the PM Poshan Scheme in education, and the initiatives of Anganwadi centers governed by the Social Welfare Department. The overarching goal, as stated by Wahlang, is to ensure that no one in Meghalaya suffers from hunger or lacks access to food.
Wahlang also highlighted the mechanism for grievance redressal, encouraging beneficiaries to contact the commission if issues remain unresolved through other channels. He assured attendees that the commission would act to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is overlooked.
During the camp, presentations were made regarding the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and the status of the PM Poshan initiative, with further insights provided into the PDS and the Food Security Act.
