Angered at the continued denial of their pending dues, the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has once again come out against the state government over its failure to clear their dues.
Dues for the months of October-December have been pending after the state government paid off about three to four months of their dues after payments were pending for over six months. However, the clearing of a few months of dues, the situation for the teachers has once again become critical for them with finances taking a hit.
“This reluctance of the government to clear our dues is resented. We have gone through a lot of struggles and hardships since the very beginning of the last year 2021. Our dues have not been cleared despite the central government releasing funds for us,” said president of AGHSSASTA, LG Momin.
The teachers asserted that they could not go on with their duty until all our dues are paid up as their duties could not be priority without their salaries.
“Last year we are promised by the state government of clearing all our pending dues before the end of the last year after the same was cleared by the centre. We demand this be cleared immediately to us” added publicity secretary, Bunbunbirth Marak.
AGHSSASTA has demanded that their demand for their salaries be met or they would resume their proposed mass hunger strike until their demands are met.
“We are paralyzed and cannot even afford our children’s dues like admission fees, monthly fees, school bus fares. The present and the future lives of all teachers is deteriorating due to the non-fulfilling of the needs of the teachers. The education scenario is still lacking far behind due to the misappropriation of funds and improper function of the education system in the state,” asserted the teachers.
