A day after it was announced that Saiden, a village in Ri-Bhoi, had recorded some of Meghalaya’s first cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, the village dorbar and the two patients have contradicted the Health Department.
Briefing the media today, headman SF Lyngdoh said that the dorbar was not informed by the state government that the two women were positive for the Omicron variant and neither were the patients informed.
The two women said that they had been declared Covid-positive and have self-quarantined but were shocked to learn yesterday that they had been declared as having been infected by the Omicron variant. Neither has a history of travel outside the state and it is unclear how they came to pick up this particular form of the virus.
