At least 160 people fell ill in a suspected case of food poisoning in Iapmala village under East Jaiñtia Hills district.
The people, after consuming pork at a New Year feast started vomiting and developed diarrhoea last night.
According to doctors at the Khliehriat CHC about 160 patients were registered at the hospital. Dr. SK Shylla and Dr C.S Bareh who attended the patients informed that the condition of about 30 people are said to be critical.
Urging people not to panic doctors at the CHC said during the festive season people should be cautious and to properly cook their food.
Patients at the hospital said they fell sick after consuming pork at the feast.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner in-charge, SS Syiemlieh has directed the District Medical Health Officer and Food Inspector of the district to conduct an investigation into the cases.
