A webinar to commemorate Human Rights Day on the theme ‘Reproductive Choice of Women: A Fundamental Right’ was today organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Sankardev College.
Sponsored by the National Commission for Women the programme was attended online by teachers, students, medical professionals and scholars from different fields.
The Webinar brought to light the many contemporary issues on gender discourses which are of relevant importance to the individual in particular and the society in general.
Experts working exclusively on gender issues were the resource persons of the webinar. Eudora Warjri, Social Development Consultant, Voluntary Health Association of Meghalaya deliberated on accessibility to health services for women in Meghalaya, Mayfareen Ryntathiang, president Grassroots spoke on abortion as a reproductive right, Dr. R. Jennifer War, Associate Professor and Head, Centre for Gender, Martin Luther Christian University, deliberated on the topic reproductive choice of women with reference to the Khasi. Joy Grace Syiem, Policy Lead Consultant, North East Network, spoke on violence against women as a public health issue and Johannan Diengdoh, Counsellor of Sankardev College initiated a discussion on reproductive choices of women: Effect on Mental Health.
