After teachers under SSA who have not been paid for close to five months now, medical staff from the Dadenggre Civil Sub Division are the latest to go without salaries for several months leading to them going on a ‘cease work’ agitation until the issue of their pending dues are sorted out.
The protest began today and was taken up by at least 31 people including medical and health officials and is likely to continue until the situation is taken care of by state health department officials.
As per medical officers, while some have remained unpaid for the past two months, others working under regulation 3F of MPSC have been without salary for the past three to five months.
The medical and health workers on November 3 had mentioned the situation through a letter to the principal secretary of the state of the Health and Family Welfare department. However despite their efforts, nothing seems to have come off it. The salaries still remain pending.
The decision to cease work was taken by the M&HO of the civil sub division after a meeting on November 19 with the protest to continue until the situation is resolved. A total of 31 signatories wrote a complaint that was forwarded to the H&FW department.
Meanwhile, upon being contacted on the issue, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh blamed a software issue due to which the salaries were not being disbursed.
“The salary issue is because of a new software, BEAMS. The matter is being sorted out in Shillong at the Health department, AG, Finance and Accounts department. I am following up the matter to ensure the process is expedited,” he said.
