Meghalaya’s Covid-19 fatality rate is the seventh-highest in the country, according to official data.
The state has recorded 1,462 Covid-related deaths since the pandemic began last year out of a total of 84,013 cases (Saturday’s figure). This gives Meghalaya a fatality rate of 1.74 percent.
This is roughly the same as sixth-placed Delhi, which has seen 25,093 deaths out of 14.4 lakh infections.
Punjab has the worst fatality rate in the country, at 2.75 percent (16,571 deaths out of 6.02 lakh cases). Nagaland is second with 2.16 percent (692 out of 31,978), Uttarakhand third with 2.15 percent (7,403 out of 3.44 lakh), Maharashtra fourth with 2.12 percent (1.40 lakh out of 66.23 lakh) and Goa fifth with 1.89 percent (3,374 out of 1.78 lakh).
The Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, combined, have the lowest death ratio nationally of just 0.04 percent. They have recorded only four Covid deaths out of 10,682 infections.
Mizoram is the second-lowest at 0.36 percent (459 out of 1.29 lakh). However, the North East state is undergoing a prolonged surge in cases and has the highest active ratio (4.39 percent) of anywhere in the country.
