Despite disconnection of electricity supply to JUD Cement for non-payment of energy bills amounting to Rs 18.72 crore, power supply to the factory of the cement company has been restored.
According to sources, the power supply was restored to the JUD Cement plant at Thangskai, East Jaintia Hills yesterday night at around 9:30 pm.
The restoration of power supply to the cement plant has shocked several engineers of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) since the cement company has not paid the power dues.
It may be mentioned that the order to cut power supply to JUD Cement from October 21 was issued by the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MPDCL) on October 12 as the cement company failed to pay the current electricity bills and outstanding dues which have accumulated to Rs 18.72 crore as on October 6.
Meanwhile, JUD Cement yesterday sought one day’s time from the Meghalaya High Court to comply with the order of the court passed on October 7.
The company also gave an undertaking before the court that the current electricity bills would be paid to MPDCL. It also assured the court to submit a proposal for clearing the pending bills with interest.
The High Court bench of Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew has directed the cement company to file its affidavit on this matter by today. The case will again be taken up on October 25.
