KHADC Chief Executive Member, Titos Chyne today said that district councils should not be left out from the ongoing boundary talks between Meghalaya and Assam.
He was speaking to media persons at Nongstoin after a meeting with traditional heads of areas along the inter-state border of West Khasi Hills.
“The State boundary is as per the boundary of the Himas. That is why any attempts at settlement of the border issue with Assam should be based on the boundary of Himas. If the State government does take this fact into consideration, it means that it is not listening to the voice of the people,” Chyne said.
According to him, the Himas that are suffering due to boundary disputes with Assam are Nongmynsaw, Riangsih, Jyrngam and Nonglang.
“In many areas of these Himas, villagers from the Garo community have made it clear that they wanted to stay with Meghalaya,” he said.
Chyne also said that KHADC has already set up a boundary committee in 2019 to look into all aspects of the boundary issue within its jurisdiction.
“We have collected all the maps and documents from the Himas and the same will be submitted to the State government within this month so that the boundary talks between Meghalaya and Assam should be as per these papers,” he added.
