The Jaiñtia Students’ Movement (JSM) has drawn the attention of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to the pothole problem that commuters are facing on NH-6 in East Jaiñtia Hills district with a warning that they will be forced to stop toll collection if not addressed.
Members of the JSM today met Naveen Kumar, Assistant Manager NHAI in the district and handed a memorandum demanding immediate redress to the problem at the earliest.
JSM president, Wellson RD Siangshai said, “The countless potholes along the stretch of NH 6 poses danger to the commuters and we have witnessed numerous accidents from Tuber Sohshrieh to Malidor.”
He also said that besides the potholes, the incomplete side drain along the highway at Wapungskur, Ladrymbai and various other places in the district has inconvenienced residents as garbage, plastics and contaminate water gush to the houses nearby.
“Under these circumstances our organisation urges you and the concerned department to look into these matters urgently and seriously and to come up with a feasible solution at the earliest, failing to do so our organisation will intervene and will force to stop the collection of toll fees at Lumshnong,” the JSM said.
