The ‘Sur ki Nong West’ today carried out a public rally and a candlelight vigil at Nongstoin to condemn the recent gruesome murder of two women in the West Khasi Hills district headquarters.
Two women were found murdered in their home near Nongstoin on August 24. The victims were 79-year-old Phlisis Syiem and 22-year-old Maitlynti Lyngdoh Marshillong, an orphan from Tiehsaw village, who stayed in the house.
According to police, the chief suspect is 24-year-old Bankhrawkupar Nongbri, who has been arrested and has also admitted that he was solely responsible for the murders.
Meanwhile, Ampareen Lyngdoh MLA said that she has called for the Assembly’s women’s empowerment committee on Friday to take note of the Nongstoin double murder, as well as the gang rape of two minors on the Shillong Bypass.
