The CRPF has agreed to remove their temporary camp at Umlaper village under Raid Nongtung in Ri-Bhoi district.
The development came after officials of Ri-Bhoi district police objected to the setting up of the CRPF camp which has created panic among the residents of the border village.
It may be mentioned that the Assam government has instructed the CRPF personnel to set up a temporary camp at Umlaper village a few days before the 75th Independence Day celebration.
The Assam government had said that the CPRF camp will look after the law and order and also help to maintain peace in border villages of Meghalaya and Assam.
However, the setting up of the CRPF camp has created panic and fears among the villagers who have been facing many atrocities and highhandedness by Assam police especially at the battalion camp located at Sabuda in Block II.
Following the complaints by the villagers, police officials of Ri-Bhoi district took up the matter with senior CRPF officials and urged for removal of the CRPF camp.
