Alert villagers from near Raksamgre managed to apprehend three persons believed to be part of a dacoit gang yesterday while also recovering some weapons from them.
The incident took place late last night in the village of Gondagre, under Raksamgre civil sub-division. The area falls under the jurisdiction of Tikrikilla Police Station in West Garo Hills.
According to reports, three persons were nabbed from the gang of dacoits, though police refused to disclose names.
The dacoits were caught by villagers before being handed over to the police for further action. Weapons, including a country-made pistol and machetes, were recovered from the group. Two others from the same gang managed to escape.
“We have registered a case and an investigation has been launched. The arrests were possible due to the immense help and support of the people,” said Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Singh.
