The Khasi Students Union (KSU), Ranikor circle has lodged a complaint with the South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner over plying of overloaded coal trucks through Ranior-Mawsynram road that has worsened the condition of the already damaged road.
The circle president Marconi Thongni and his members met Deputy Commissioner, Caramai Kharkongor and sought control over the overloading of coal trucks while seeking action on their complaint.
Thongni said coal laden trucks have been moving through the road for three months now during mornings and nights and have caused stressed to the road there.
Referring to referring to the Supreme Court judgment on movement of overloaded coal trucks Thongni said there are public complaints against their movement and the Deputy Commissioner should put a stop to these illegalities.
The KSU has also urged the police department to check coal trucks as it is highly suspicious that these could be illegal because their movement happens only at night.
