The Joint Action Committee of the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong from Mawhati, Sonidan, Umlaper, and Umsiang area met with Community and Rural Development Minister Hamletson Dohling today to push for a C&RD block for Mawhati.
The delegation was led by Mawhati MDC Charles Marngar.
Speaking to reporters, Synjuk chairman M Jyrwa said that the distance from Umsning C&RD block to Umsiang is approximately 100km, which creates plenty of hurdles for the people of the region to meet their needs and avail different government schemes that only results in a waste of time and money.
There are 52 villages in the region, with 3,617 households and a population of more than 21,000, according to the 2011 census.
Informing that the Synjuk has also decided to give a plot of land free of cost for setting up of the C&RD office building, Jyrwa said that they want this demand to materialise at the earliest for the welfare of the inhabitants.
He said that Dohling assured them that a survey will be conducted by the department before further discussion on the matter.
Jyrwa also said that the rural employment guarantee scheme (MGNREGS) has not been properly functioning in the region in the last one year.
“I can’t exactly tell why the MGNREGS in our region has not been functioning properly for the past one year but one of the reasons is the delay in the release of the material funds to the VEC (Village Employment Council),” he added.
