Union Ministers on a rare trip to the mountain states of the Northeast region have a hard time convincing the people here that they truly care about it and that it’s not just a political gimmick.
Ditto Union Home Minister, Amit Shah who is on a two day visit to Meghalaya on July 24 and 25.
As a bugle-blowing leader of the BJP, he has to particularly show his love for the region, what with his party now openly bent on snatching away the much relished beef from the table of the hill Northeasterners. But he will have a hard time convincing these people that he’s here because he cares since he doesn’t even seem sure where his destination is as per his itinerary titled “Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah to attend the following programmes in Meghalaya and Assam (24-25 July 2021)” shared with the media.
Luckily, the home ministry mandarin got the spelling of Meghalaya right, so there’s no confusion about which state of India he’s landing in.
But after that, no one knows where he’s going to be headed for because, a search of the map for the places mentioned in his itinerary were nowhere to be found in this state, at least.
His itinerary shared through the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said the honourable HM will be in “Maaviyang” where he will inaugurate a bus terminal. This same name was again misspelt as ‘Maviyang’.’
Then the HM will go to “Vahsharee” where he is slated to inaugurate a cryogenic oxygen plant and pediatric ward.
The next day on July 25 he will be planting trees with the Assam Rifles in “Umsavali,” wherever that is, it’s not in Meghalaya.
No wonder, highly irritated by these careless goofs, a local scribe caustically remarked “sounds Chinese.”
