Various pressure groups from Mawsynram C&RD block have joined the bandwagon of demand to upgrade the area into a civil sub-division.
This demand was also made by the MLA from the area, Himalaya M Shangpliang before Chief Minister Conrad Sangma yesterday.
The KSU, FKJGP, HYC, UHM and HANM today held at a meeting at Pongkung village to discuss on the need for an upgrade which according to them would benefit the people of Mawsynram on many fronts especially to bring administration closer to the people
Chairman of the organisations, Kyllang S Thongni at a press conference said the recent announcement made by the Chief Minister that Mairang will become a district by August 15 is laudable as this shows the farsightedness that the MDA government has for the people and the State.
Thongni said Mawsynram block which was carved out since 1962 has to upgraded and this could be done before Meghalaya celebrates its 50th anniversary.
