Meghalaya recorded its lowest number of new Covid-19 infections in a single day since May 8, but this comes on the back of lower than average testing numbers as well.
There were just 379 new cases logged today, as well as 773 new recoveries and nine new fatalities. The number of Covid tests carried out yesterday was around 1,750, the lowest for a month and a half.
In East Khasi Hills, active cases dropped below 2,000 to stand at 1,995, while those statewide fell to 4,924. However, West Jaintia Hills rose to second place in terms of number of active cases, with 647.
Six fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with two in West Khasi Hills and one in West Jaintia Hills. While the state’s seven-day rolling average of new infections also fell below 500 to stand at 495.71, there was a small increase if East Khasi Hills is removed out of the equation, with it growing from 281.29 to 284.14 for the other 10 districts combined.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 149 of today’s reported infections, which was its lowest tally since May 3. West Garo Hills reported 52, West Jaintia Hills 40, North Garo Hills 36, South West Garo Hills 24, South West Khasi Hills 23, East Garo Hills 15, West Khasi Hills 14, East Jaintia Hills 10, Ri-Bhoi nine and South Garo Hills seven.
There were also 773 recoveries today – 371 in East Khasi Hills, 142 in Ri-Bhoi, 83 West Garo Hills, 51 in South West Garo Hills, 39 in East Jaintia Hills, 27 in West Jaintia Hills, 16 in West Khasi Hills, 16 in North Garo Hills, 14 in East Garo Hills, 11 in South West Khasi Hills and three in South Garo Hills.
There are now 4,924 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 1,995 active cases, West Jaintia Hills 647, West Garo Hills 618, Ri-Bhoi 457, South West Garo Hills 308, South West Khasi Hills 243, North Garo Hills 171, East Jaintia Hills 156, West Khasi Hills 135, East Garo Hills 102 and South Garo Hills 92.
In all, Meghalaya has had 39,535 Covid-19 cases, of which 4,924 are active, 33,933 have recovered and 678 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has increased to 85.83 percent. The fatality rate is 1.71 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases has dropped to 495.71.
