The Non Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has hit out at the current executive committee’s chief executive member, Benedict Marak, calling his style of functioning insensible and unacceptable.
The latest salvo against the CEM comes in the wake of the ongoing fracas between the two sides over pending salaries to the council employees for over 34 months.
The matter came to a head yesterday following the CEM requesting police protection for employees who had reportedly accepted the five months salary proposal and wanted to return to work. The move was opposed by the NGEA who continued their protest against what they said were ‘outsiders’ being allowed to enter the GHADC premises.
“Surprisingly the CEM had brought a number of outsiders who are not employees of GHADC to work in the office. The GHADC is a government/public institution and there is a legal mechanism for appointing people to work in the GHADC. The CEM cannot simply use the office as his personal firm or as his personal property,” alleged the NGEA.
The NGEA further denied that any agreements were made between the employees and the EC for payment of five months salaries at the old scale.
