The Khasi Students Union (KSU) took up the hot topic issue of private hospitals supposedly overcharging their Covid patients.
The KSU donated five oxygen cylinders and PPE to the Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital in Jaiaw here, which is near the pressure group’s head office.
Lamenting that many people have lost their near and dear ones because of the coronavirus, KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar urged the hospital not to overcharge Covid-19 patients but to do all they could to save the precious lives of the people.
As public hospitals alone do not have the capacity to treat every who contracts the disease, the government should also earmark financial assistance to the private hospitals, he opined.
The KSU is also concerned about the loss of livelihoods among the poor, including farmers.
“We keep receiving phone calls from people telling us that they don’t have rations or the money to buy rations since they did not get a chance to earn during the lockdown,” Marngar said.
