There were 24 new Covid-related deaths reported across Meghalaya today as well as 803 new Covid-19 cases and a record 553 recoveries.
Nineteen fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with five in West Jaintia Hills. Nineteen out of the 24 had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death. The other five were brought dead to hospital. There have now been 104 Covid-related fatalities in the last five days, a daily average of just under 21.
The deceased were identified as Jestina Marwein (66) of Bholaganj, Jrei Rymbai (44) of Salini Colony, Asha R Marak (49) of Nongmensong, Nilima Das Choudhury (99) of Rilbong, Balin Dkhar (47) of Pynthorsale, Magrita Nongkhlaw (52) of Laitumkhrah Nongrimbah, Jrensing Kharkongor (71) of Nongmensong, Choephel Lama (82) of Mawprem, Earson Sangma (52) of Laitumkhrah, Johnson Laloo (48) of Jaiaw Mawbynna, Routineshon Wahlang (63) of Jaiaw Lumbatemon, Ila Bhattacharjee (69) of Rilbong, Fighterclan Kharkongor (53) of Nongrim Sadew, Ioannis Lyngdoh (62) of Jaiaw Langsning, Tony Lama (60) of Nongrah, Biang Hynniewta (72) of Mawlynrei, Recil Phawa (70) of Ialong, Wadrilang Nongsteng (35) of Pynursla, Anup Das (48) of Nongrim Hills, Sainbor Pathaw (38) of Mawlai Mawdatbaki, Sily Dkhar (73) of Moodymmai, Badaphun Rapsang (28) of Nongbsap, Shrimwell Marwein (75) of Kynshi Mawria and Kyrshan Shylla (54) of Ladthalaboh.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 484 of today’s reported infections, including two among armed forces/paramilitaries, four health workers, one returnee, 232 high-risk contacts, 68 influenza-like illness (ILIs), 17 severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), nine in Jaiaw, seven in Jongksha, eight in Lumshyiap, 11 in Mawlai, eight in Mawprem and 117 in various other neighbourhood clusters.
West Jaintia Hills reported 55 new cases (three health workers, seven high-risk, seven ILIs, 17 in Nartiang Law, one police personnel, three returnees, one SARI, eight screening, eight in other clusters), West Garo Hills 52 (four armed forces/paramilitaries, two health workers, eight high-risk, six ILIs, four returnees, two screening, 15 in Selsella, nine in other clusters), South West Khasi Hills 52 (36 in Mawlangwir, 16 high-risk), South West Garo Hills 45 (24 police, one health worker, 10 high-risk, five ILIs, one screening, four in clusters), East Jaintia Hills 34 (three high-risk, 14 ILIs, six returnees, 11 screening), Ri-Bhoi 27 (three armed forces/paramilitaries, two health workers, seven high-risk, three ILIs, one returnee, 11 in clusters), South Garo Hills 19 (one health worker, five high-risk, five ILIs, eight in Mahadeo Bazaar), West Khasi Hills 16 (one high-risk, three screening, 12 in clusters), North Garo Hills 10 (nine high-risk, one ILI) and East Garo Hills nine (two health workers, three high-risk, four in Rongjeng).
There were also 553 recoveries today – 316 in East Khasi Hills, 81 in Ri-Bhoi, 77 in West Garo Hills, 22 in South West Garo Hills, 17 in West Jaintia Hills, 10 in East Jaintia Hills, 10 in West Khasi Hills, nine in North Garo Hills, seven in East Garo Hills, three in South Garo Hills and one in South West Khasi Hills.
There are now 7,680 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 4,173 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 1,182, West Garo Hills 540, West Jaintia Hills 537, South West Garo Hills 315, East Jaintia Hills 265, West Khasi Hills 185, North Garo Hills 141, South Garo Hills 135, South West Khasi Hills 117 and East Garo Hills 90.
In all, Meghalaya has had 29,681 Covid-19 cases, of which 7,680 are active, 21,542 have recovered and 459 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 72.58 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.55 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 907.00.
