      There were 24 Covid-related fatalities reported across Meghalaya today, setting a distressing new record and taking the overall death toll for May to 208. There were also 872 new infections and 411 recoveries.

      Seventeen fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with four in West Jaintia Hills and one each in East Garo Hills, Ri-Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills. Nineteen out of the 24 had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death.

      The deceased were identified as Ritmon Suting (55) of 15th Mile in Ri-Bhoi, Anjoli Debnath (38) of Ichamati, Lidia Suting (62) of Nongpoh, Sumar Dkhar (45) of Mooleng, Himale Khonglah (45) of Umkiang, Ditren Malngiang (60) of Mawlai Nonglum, Nisi Nongkseh (64) of Mawlai Nongmali, Mebis Blah (75) of Mawphlang, Aibok Tiewsoh (55) of Shella, Joren Dura (65) of Wahingdoh, Bhim Kumar Lama (64) of Madanrting, Laveena Kharpuri (30) of Malki, Joseph Lyngdoh (76) of Umsaw Nongkharai, Franklin Kharbani (61) of Mawlai Mawdatbaki, Jannie Jane Mawrie (56) of Iawmusiang, Iorsibon Sutnga (59) of Sutnga, Osbert Cooper Kharkongor (40) of Laban, Ritina Tron (50) of Sunny Hill, Lisen Khongjoh (38) of Nongpoh, Lamborlang Kharmawphlang (38) of Nongrim Hills, Aislin Kharmalki (84) of Lummawbah, Basuklin Khyriem (40) of Mawlai Mawdatbaki, Biksting D Sangma (65) of Rongjeng Awangga and Iohi Dkhar (87) of Wahiajer.

      East Khasi Hills accounted for a massive 571 of today’s reported infections, including four among armed forces/paramilitaries, 150 high-risk contacts, one influenza-like illness (ILIs), five through screening, four severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), one health worker, 10 in Jaiaw, 11 in Laban, 17 in Laitmawlong, 10 in Lawsohtun, 17 in Lumparing, 11 in Lumpdeng, 13 in Mawkdok, 68 in Mawlai, 17 in Mawprem, 13 in Nongmynsong, 11 in Nongrah, 23 in Nongthymmai, 11 in Rilbong, 21 in Upper Shillong and 153 in various other neighbourhood clusters.

      West Garo Hills reported 68 new cases (three health workers, 38 high-risk, eight ILIs, five in Phulbari, three returnees, one screening), Ri-Bhoi 60 (two armed forces/paramilitaries, one in Byrnihat, 17 in Domphlang, 10 high-risk, six ILIs, 11 in Lumsohphoh, four police personnel, six in Rangmen, one SARI, one screening, one in Umiam), South West Garo Hills 40 (two in Betasing, 37 high-risk, one ILI), West Jaintia Hills 37 (18 high-risk, one ILI, two SARIs, 16 screening), East Jaintia Hills 25 (one health worker, 14 high-risk, five ILIs, four returnees, one screening), East Garo Hills 22 (three high-risk, 11 ILIs, eight screening), North Garo Hills 21 (six high-risk, five ILIs, 10 screening), West Khasi Hills 11 (one health worker, eight high-risk, two screening), South West Khasi Hills nine (seven high-risk, two ILIs) and South Garo Hills eight (four high-risk, four screening).

      There were also 411 recoveries today – 265 in East Khasi Hills, 49 in West Garo Hills, 43 in Ri-Bhoi, 23 in East Jaintia Hills, eight in West Khasi Hills, seven in North Garo Hills, five in South West Garo Hills, five in South Garo Hills, four in West Jaintia Hills, one in East Garo Hills and one in South West Khasi Hills.

      There are now 5,769 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 3,365 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 689, West Garo Hills 461, West Jaintia Hills 385, South West Garo Hills 233, East Jaintia Hills 217 and West Khasi Hills 172.

      In all, Meghalaya has had 24,744 Covid-19 cases, of which 5,769 are active, 19,596 have recovered and 379 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 76.12 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.47 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 679.86. More than 4.19 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the state as of today.
