Because of the ongoing board exams, the Federation of Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) met Power Minister James Sangma on the issue of frequent power cuts in the state today.
FKJGP secretary Dundee Khongsit told reporters afterwards that Sangma had said that the problem is that the Power Department is still indebted to many power suppliers but assured that the matter is being studied seriously.
The pressure group also made its opposition to the appointment of MK Chettri as Director of Distribution in the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd on the ground that there are several Chief Engineers who are more senior to Chettri.
Khongsit further stated that the FKJGP is also strongly opposed to the MeECL’s move to hire outsiders and privatize substations.
