With the rise in cars and motorcycles with loud exhaust notes, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has decided to hold an awareness programme before owners are booked as per law.
Vehicles, both two-wheelers and four wheelers, which are retrofitted with loud exhaust pipes causing noise pollution in the city, especially at unearthly hours, is in violation of the Motor Vehicle Act causing inconvenience to residents of the city, including children and senior citizens, the STP said.
Urging owners who have retrofitted their exhaust pipes to get them removed and replace them with the original exhaust pipes the STP informed that awareness drives will be conducted till April 30.
“Thereafter, violators will be booked under Section 182-A4of the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act, 2019.”
