With the sudden spurt of Covid-19 cases in Meghalaya, the Education Department today announced that any Class 10 or 12 student can sit their Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) exams at a later date if they contract the coronavirus.
Such students will need to produce an RT-PCR certificate to be able to take their exam at a later date.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told reporters almost 1 lakh candidates are scheduled to appear for the exams – 65,787 in the SSLC and 32,506 in the HSSLC.
The minister assured that the exams can be conducted safely if Covid protocols are maintained at the examination centres.
“Last year we conducted exams for three subjects during Covid-19. The examination centres know what to do. We hope that the exam will go on smoothly and I wish all the students not to panic because even if somebody contracts the virus we will still give them a chance to appear at a later date,” he added.
MBOSE has also directed all examination centres to use as many halls as possible and also to have at least one-two extra halls on standby in case students are discovered to have Covid-19.
