A prime accused in the murder of a 16-year old school girl from Pamrakmai in East Jaiñtia Hills was arrested by police.
However, the name of the accused has not been provided by police who are still investigating and ascertaining facts if there are more people involved into the case, which shook the Jaiñtia Hills districts recently.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), GK Iangrai informed that the case which was lodged at the Khliehriat Women Police Station was transferred to Crime Branch Police Station, East Khasi Hills.
He said the case is being conducted by officers of the Crime Branch Police Station, who are being assisted by the Crime Scene Unit and East Jaiñtia Hills Police.
“In the past few days, the team has been conducting thorough investigation which has culminated in the arrest of one person who is the prime accused of this case,” he informed.
The dead body of the Class X student studying at Wapungskur Secondary School was found along with her school bags and books from a forest at Ar Kilo village on March 13, a day after she went missing.
The incident has evoked widespread condemnation as a similar crime was committed on an 18 year-old orphan in nearby Sohkymphor village in December, 2020.
