Deficit school teachers of the State will take three days leave from March 10 to 12 in protest against the State government’s failure to meet their demands.
The deficit school teachers – Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) and Garo Hills deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) has formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to pursue the matter.
Vice-President of the KJDSTA and Chairman of the JAC, Susan Syiem said that the JAC wants the State government to implement the recommendation of the Fifth Pay Commission with regards to the deficit school teachers like pension and retirement benefits – Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG).
Syiem said that as per a notification dated, June 21, 2018 the State government had committed to disburse the arrear of the revised pay in four installments of 25 percent every year with effect from the same year.
“Till date only one installment of 25 percent was released in December 2018,” has been received,” the chairperson of the JAC said.
The JAC informed that in another notification dated February 19, this year, the release of the second installment of 25 percent that was due in 2019.
“We are now awaiting for the remaining 50 percent of the arrear which is supposed to be cleared by 2021 as committed,” the JAC said.
The deficit school teachers expect a written assurance to ensure final disbursement of the pending arrear by the end of 2021.
The JAC also said that the government is yet to adopt the draft Service Rules of Deficit School Teachers.
The deficit requests the implementation of the Service Rules of Deficit School Teachers for smooth functioning of the teachers, management and the government.
