President of the Khasi Jaiñtia National Union (KJNU), Niman Shadap, today threatened to file a defamation suit against the president of the MPUF, Dapoiwanmi Laloo if he fails to prove all the allegations leveled against him.
Shadap who had earlier lodged an FIR against Laloo for threatening him at gunpoint over a cattle smuggling operation at Ummulong was accused by the latter of demanding Rs 2 lakh from truck drivers ferrying cattle with valid documents.
“If Laloo fails to prove the allegations that the KJNU demanded Rs 2 lakh from the truck drivers we will file a defamation case against him,” Shadap said at a press conference on Saturday.
He said, “The MPUF members including Laloo were arrested several times by the East Jaiñtia Hills police for extorting truck drivers and we have proof that they are also involved in illegal smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh,” he alleged and demanded that the guilty should be arrested and punished as per the law.
Stating that the KJNU will not tolerate any “monkey business” in the area, he maintained that if the truck has a valid challan, as claimed by Laloo, why the police would detain the trucks for more than 12 hours.
“Shockingly, these trucks reached Ummulong without valid challans and also from thereafter being apprehended by our members and handover to the police,” he said claiming that the KJNU will soon expose all illegalities and people involved with evidence.
Another member informed that when the KJNU members asked for the challans from the truck drivers they instead showed a challan from Assam written in Hindi language and not a challan issue from Khyndai Mer and so they apprehended the trucks and took them to the police station but never demanded any ransom.
