Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator AL Hek has come out in support of fellow cabinet minister James Sangma of the National People’s Party (NPP) on the latter’s comments on alleged illegalities in the functioning of the Jaiñtia and Garo Hills Autonomous District Councils (JHADC and GHADC).
Yesterday Sangma had said that it would be irresponsible of the BJP to go around alleging corruption without any proof. He said this in response to the state unit of the BJP meeting the party’s national president and ministers in New Delhi and discussing the corruption claims there.
“I totally agree with the statement of the Power Minister (Sangma) that any allegations need to be proven. You cannot just make wild allegations without having proof,” Hek told reporters.
When reminded that the BJP leaders from the state had supported their allegations by submitting Right to Information (RTI) documents in New Delhi, he said that submitting RTI documents does not prove that an act of corruption was committed.
