Cases of Covid-19 in East Khasi Hills reached 8,044 today, with 61 new infections reported. In Meghalaya as a whole there were 69 new cases, 70 recoveries and no new fatalities from the virus.
Besides the new cases in East Khasi Hills, there were two each in East Garo Hills, Ri-Bhoi and South West Garo Hills and one each in West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills.
Two of the new infections in East Khasi Hills were health workers, while 12 were among armed forces/paramilitaries and five among returnees. There were also several cases in various clusters, including five in Laitumkhrah, four in Madanrting, three in Jhalupara and two in Laban. One health worker also tested positive in South West Garo Hills.
The recoveries were divided between East Khasi Hills (55), West Garo Hills (eight), East Garo Hills (three), West Jaiñtia Hills (two), East Jaiñtia Hills (one) and West Khasi Hills (one).
In all, Meghalaya has had 13,141 Covid-19 cases, of which 686 are active, 12,322 have recovered and 133 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has increased to 93.77 percent. The fatality rate is 1.01 percent.
The Health Department also informed that around 2,100 Covid-19 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.
