The death toll from Covid-19 in East Khasi Hills hit 100 today with two more fatalities recorded in the district.
Vanlal Faka Hmar (74), of Madanrting, tested positive for the virus on November 14 and was admitted to Woodland Hospital the same day. He died on December 5. Cause of death was severe Covid pneumonia with Type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
Bhawan Singh Rai (79), of Happy Valley, was admitted to Nazareth Hospital on November 21 and passed away today afternoon. Cause of death was Covid-19 pneumonia with Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease and coronary artery disease.
There have now been 122 fatalities from the disease in Meghalaya, with a fatality rate of 0.98 percent.
In all there were 98 new infections in the state, along with 113 recoveries today.
Of the new cases 73 were in East Khasi Hills, 11 in West Garo Hills, eight in Ri-Bhoi, three in South West Garo Hills, two in East Jaiñtia Hills and one in East Garo Hills.
Six health workers tested positive in East Khasi Hills, alone with one in Ri-Bhoi. In East Khasi Hills there were also nine new cases in Mawlai Nongmali, five in Mawlai Phudmuri and two each in Mawprem, Mawdiangdiang, Madanrting and Langkyrding. Ten returnees also tested positive for the virus in the district along with three in Ri-Bhoi. Two cases were also transferred to South West Garo Hills from West Garo Hills while two migrated from West Garo Hills to Assam.
Of the recoveries 63 were reported in East Khasi Hills, 39 in West Garo Hills, four in East Jaiñtia Hills, three in South West Garo Hills, two in Ri-Bhoi and one each in East Garo Hills and West Jaiñtia Hills.
In all, Meghalaya has had 12,410 Covid-19 cases, of which 602 are active, 11,686 have recovered and 122 have died from the virus. The recovery rate is 94.17 percent.
The Health Department also informed that around 2,100 Covid-19 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.
