Mawtharia village had its new community hall inaugurated today by Chairman of the State Planning Board, Lambor Malngiang, who promised many more developments for the surrounding area in the near future.
The Nongkrem MLA and MDC opened the building in the presence of Block Development Officer, Peter Tremi Passah.
Malngiang said that Mawtharia will also soon benefit from the installation of street lights, water supply from the Greater Pomlakrai Water Supply Scheme, construction of a school building and other work once proposals for these are finalised.
Passah, meanwhile, praised the exemplary role of the Mawtharia Dorbar Shnong in combating the Covid-19 pandemic, especially after a villager tested positive for the disease in May.
“The community participation, leadership and responsibility shouldered by the Dorbar Shnong and the village as a whole has led to the replication of the Mawtharia model through the setting of Community Covid Management Teams in all districts of the state,” a press release informed.
