Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been promulgated against illegal plying of overloaded and heavy vehicles along the National Highway 6 in East Jaiñtia Hills district.
The District Magistrate in an order today said that all heavy loaded trucks passing through the National Highway are required to restrict the load within the permissible net weight depending on axle combination of the types of vehicle that are plying on the road, as per the notification issued by Transport Department.
According to the order, incessant heavy rain during the past few months has caused damage to the roads along the National Highway in the district and illegal plying of overloaded trucks may cause danger to public lives as the road might collapse and also disruption of public traffic which may lead to public suffering.
Any truck drivers/ transporters / drivers violating the order will be punished as per Section 194 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
The order comes into force with immediate effect and until further orders, the District Magistrate said.
