Two more Covid-related fatalities were reported in Meghalaya today, pushing the death toll to 70.
Elmo Kharsati (52) of Mawpyrshong, Jongsha was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital on September 7 and tested positive for Covid-19 on September 25. A cancer patient, she died today morning of Covid-19 pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
The second death was of Wanbet Rapsang (63) of Mawlai Nonglum. She had been receiving treatment for Covid-19 at Supercare Hospital since September 28 and was referred to Shillong Civil Hospital yesterday and passed away today morning due to respiratory failure with Covid-19 pneumonia, ARDS, septic shock and hypertension.
Meanwhile, there were 153 new cases recorded today, with 176 recoveries. The total number of active cases now stands at 2,339, while recoveries have reached 5,582.
Out of the 153 new cases 104 were detected in East Khasi Hills, 25 in West Garo Hills, 11 in Ri-Bhoi, six in East Garo Hills, two in North Garo Hills and one each in East Jaintia Hills, South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills.
With 1,609 active cases, comprising 1,573 civilians and 36 armed forces/paramilitaries, East Khasi Hills is the most affected district in the state.
Ri-Bhoi has 333 active cases, West Garo Hills 174, West Jaintia Hills 75, South Garo Hills 37, North Garo Hills 24, East Garo Hills 24, East Jaintia Hills 10 and West Khasi Hills 7, besides 23 cases each in South West Khasi Hills and South West Garo Hills.
The new recoveries comprised 139 in East Khasi Hills, 20 in West Garo Hills, five each in Ri-Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills, three each in East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills and one in South Garo Hills district.
