The All Jaiñtia Cement Clinker Transporters Association (AJCCTA) has expressed concern over benami transactions prevalent in the district that has deprived the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) of its legitimate revenue.
Stating that benami transactions are thriving due to collusion between some local people and their non-tribal business partners, the association also blamed the JHADC for not being able to regulate various aspects of trade and commerce and that most of the non-tribal traders do not posses trading licence or labour licences.
“This is one of the reasons why the district council has not been able to release pending salaries to its employees,” AJCCATA secretary Kyshan Dkhar stated.
