Shillong, Sep 22: A 500-MT capacity warehouse, the largest in West Khasi Hills district, was inaugurated at Nongsleh Mawsaw by the Nongsleh Mawsaw Integrated Village Cooperative Society (IVCS).
The warehouse was built at a cost of Rs 74,87,781, with Rs 59,11,046 support under MLAMP through MBMA and LIFCOM loan of Rs 15,76,375.
Formed in June 2023 with 277 members, the Nongsleh Mawsaw IVCS will use the facility to store local produce, particularly ginger, broomsticks and other products, enabling better management of sale timing.
Addressing the gathering, Cooperation Minister and Mawshynrut MLA Methodius Dkhar said the warehouse will enable farmers to safely store produce and sell when market prices are favourable, helping them secure better returns.
He urged IVCS members to make effective use of farm equipment provided by the Horticulture Department including power tillers, sprayers and grass cutters to cut time, cost and improve productivity.
MDC Mawshynrut Srally Rashir, District Horticulture Officer T Diengngan, District Project Manager MBMA Aiborlang R Nongkhlaw and others were present on the occasion.
