Shillong, Sep 8: The School of Technology, NEHU, Shillong organised its internal hackathon for Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2026 on Monday with five teams comprising 30 students presenting solutions on environmental monitoring, logistics, agriculture, voice technology and healthcare.
Prof. Dinesh Bhatia, Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Development Centre, NEHU, and Prof. Sirsendu Shekhar Ray, Dean (In-charge), School of Technology, in their inaugural addresses, called upon students to develop scalable, impactful solutions rooted in local realities of the North-East.
Among the projects, The Starlings presented NEXUS, an AI-based environmental monitoring network for early hazard alerts; Team URX showcased Setu, an AI-driven logistics platform for Northeast terrain; Aether proposed KANHA, a portable AI tool for crop disease and nutrient detection in low-connectivity areas; RadioHeads demonstrated a low-latency voice activation system using TinyML; and ZeroBlur presented DiEye AI for diabetic retinopathy screening in rural settings.
The projects were evaluated by Prof. Ray, Dr. Pankaj Sarkar and Dr. Amitabha Nath on innovation, feasibility, societal impact and presentation.
