Nongpoh, Sep 8: The “Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan (MRMA) 2.0” campaign was conducted across Ri-Bhoi District to promote scientific and sustainable Eri and Muga sericulture and strengthen farmers’ livelihoods.
Organised by Dr. Ramesh M. Maradi, Scientist-B, CSB-REC Shillong, in coordination with R. B. Lyngwa, Deputy Director of Sericulture, Department of Textiles, Meghalaya, the campaign comprised nine programmes held between July 22 and September 2, 2026.
The programmes covered technology demonstrations, farmer training, field visits and scientist–farmer interactions.
A total of 344 farmers, including 315 women, participated. Focus was on improved silkworm rearing, organic farming, host-plant cultivation, pest and disease management, innovative spinning technology, marketing opportunities and productivity enhancement.The initiative aimed at strengthening technology transfer and promoting sustainable livelihoods, women’s empowerment and rural entrepreneurship through improved sericulture practices in Ri-Bhoi.
