Shillong, Jul 30: Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College for Skill Development, Wahiajer, a constituent college of NEHU, concluded an eight-day training programme on “Embroidery & Indigenous Design Techniques”, which concluded on Thursday.
The programme aimed to empower local youth, especially women, with vocational skills to promote economic independence, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Thirty participants from across the community took part in the training conducted by resource person Heihokwanki Lytan. Through practical demonstrations and interactive sessions, trainees gained hands-on skills in indigenous embroidery and design to explore self-employment opportunities.
The valedictory function was attended by Prof. H. Lamin (Retd.), Founder Principal In-charge of DDUCC and Hunbait Chyrmang, Executive Engineer, MePDCL Mustem, as guests.
Prof. Lamin congratulated the participants and urged them to use the skills to become entrepreneurs who can generate employment for others. He stressed the need to preserve indigenous knowledge and traditional craftsmanship as part of the region’s cultural heritage.
Principal In-charge, DDUCC Dr. F.R. Sumer reaffirmed the college’s commitment to community-oriented skill development.
Programme Coordinator Wolnish Rymbai said DDUCC continues to receive positive feedback for its skill initiatives, which are aligned with NEP 2020 and the vision of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay of promoting self-reliance while preserving India’s cultural heritage.
Also present were Latu Nartiang, Branch Manager, MCAB Ummulong, community member Lukas Jat, Pastor Reveal Singh Phawa, along with faculty, staff and others.
