Shillong, Jul 27: One person was killed and two others injured in a suspected stabbing in East Khasi Hills late Sunday night.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the first injured man was found with stab wounds near the BSF Battalion gate around 10:30 pm.
BSF personnel shifted him to NEIGRIHMS where he is undergoing treatment.
Hours later, police found the body of Shanbor Rani in Mawkasiang with multiple stab injuries. Police said Rani had prior criminal cases, including murder and NDPS offences.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered.
A third man from the same group was later found injured in Mawtawar and has also been hospitalised.
According to police, all three appeared to have been together. A vehicle recovered from the spot belonged to the deceased.
On the motive, Syiem said nothing has been ruled out yet. “At this stage we cannot confirm the motive. It could be related to drugs or a vendetta. The investigation will reveal why Shanbor Rani was killed,” he said.
