Shillong, Jul 18: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the CM Connect Centre at Sohiong C&RD Block and laid foundation stones for several development projects at Mawtap Pyllun ground.
Speaking at the event, the chief minister said eight projects worth Rs 5.48 crore were inaugurated and nine projects worth Rs 140.74 crore were launched. “Our commitment is to ensure development reaches every village and every citizen,” he said.
The projects are: Block Integrated Development Centre (Rs 2.77 crore), Block Resource Centre (Rs 50 lakh), Children & Adolescents Libraries & Digital Infrastructure for 13 villages at Rs 2.24 crore, plastic waste management unit (Rs 5 lakh), Collective Marketing Centres at Nongur and Jamynthlen at Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh respectively and Agricab for collective marketing and storage at Rs 3 lakh.
The Block Integrated Development Centre was inaugurated by Pyntngenlang Nongrang of Nongur village, a 17-year Army veteran. “While it has been the tradition that all government buildings and infrastructures are inaugurated by the chief guest or the dignitaries present, I believe that practice should be that it should be inaugurated by people from within the community to have the honour that makes it more meaningful,” Sangma said.
During the programme, foundation stones for projects worth Rs 140.74 crore were laid. They include the Kynroh Viewpoint at Rs 12.18 crore, Sohiong Viewpoint at Rs 5.02 crore, Tree House at Nongkasen at Rs 9.30 crore and Hotel & Public Viewing Point at Lum Diengiei at Rs 39.20 crore.
Under the PWD department foundation was laid for Kynton Mynnar-Nongpathae Road and Mawlaingut-Lawmei Road with two RCC bridges at Rs 20.58 crore.
Under the PHE and Water Resources sectors, augmentation of Greater Sohiong Water Supply Scheme of Rs 34.53 Crs and the Dewlieh Mawrisnai Flow Irrigation Project for improved water availability for farmers of Rs 80 lakhs.
Under sport, foundation was laid for a futsal court with facilities worth Rs 98 lakhs.
At the Block Level CM Connect, residents raised concerns on soil erosion, solar mission applications, football field, cold storage, vocational centres, PMFBY crop insurance, livestock insurance, JJM, network connectivity, and market infrastructure.
The chief minister and officials responded to each issue and assured follow-up.
Cheques and sanction orders were also distributed to village organizations and SHGs during the programme.
Also present were C&RD Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, Sohiong MLA Synshar Kupar Roy Lyngdoh Thabah and district officials.
