Shillong, Jul 2: The West Garo Hills district election office convened a meeting with representatives from all political parties to discuss the conduct of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The meeting, held at the DRDA conference hall in Tura, was chaired by the District Election Officer Vibhor Aggarwal in the presence of the observer Rikse R. Marak, EROs and AEROs.
Aggarwal said that it was essential to have such meetings during the process, to discuss the role of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) drawn from various political parties, discuss the do’s and don’ts and at the same time sort out issues that come up during the SIR process.
He also invited the parties to give their feedback on the ongoing SIR process in the district, stressing the need for active participation and cooperation of all stakeholders, including the political parties.
Altogether 178 BLAs from various political parties have been appointed for the SIR exercise in the district.
ADC (Election), Nipon Hajong briefly highlighted the series of activities that have been undertaken by the District Election machinery in the run-up to SIR 2026. He also apprised the need to ensure transparency, accuracy, and inclusiveness in the electoral roll and briefed the political party representatives on roles and responsibilities of the BLAs, including the do’s and don’ts to be followed by the BLAs during the SIR process.
The electoral roll observer highlighted her observations of the process in the district till date. She said that government officials have been given important duty as EROs and AEROs during SIR process and urged upon them to not be lackadaisical and intensively monitor the entire exercise.
