Shillong, Jun 10: The residents of Nengkra and surrounding villages, along with the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Garo Land State Movement Committee (GSMC) and A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) have objected to the proposed opening of a bonded warehouse in their area.
In a letter addressed to the East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, community representatives expressed their fears over the potential consequences of this development.
The objection letter highlighted several concerns, including the possibility of heightened anti-social activities, disturbances to the peace, and dire safety issues affecting women and children. The residents fear that the establishment of a bonded warehouse may disrupt the quiet, residential nature of their community, which is primarily composed of families.
Moreover, the groups cited potential negative impact on the environment and overall harmony of the area. They urged the Deputy Commissioner to reconsider the decision and not grant permission for the warehouse’s operation.
