Shillong, Jun 9: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has sought Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s intervention to release the Chief Minister’s Scholarship for 2025, saying eligible students have not received the funds for over a year.
In a letter to the CM, KSU education secretary Alerick Kharjana said several students across the state who fulfilled all eligibility criteria and completed verification have been waiting for the scholarship amount for more than 12 months.
“This delay is causing severe financial hardship to students from economically weaker sections who depend on this support for tuition fees, books and hostel expenses,” the union said.
The KSU requested immediate intervention to release the pending funds to all eligible students without further delay. It also sought a clear timeline for disbursal and the setting up of a grievance helpline for affected students.
“The CM Scholarship has been a lifeline for meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds. Timely release will help them continue their education with dignity and contribute to the state’s progress,” the letter stated.
