Shillong, May 22: East Khasi Hills district launched the ‘Samridhi Ki Pathshala’ initiative, part of the Government of India’s Modernization of Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM) scheme.
The event took place at Lyngkhoi village under Sohiong Community and Rural Development Block. The programme aimed at enlightening farmers and Water User Societies (WUS) about the importance of upgrading agricultural water infrastructure and the modernisation of irrigation systems.
The awareness campaign served as a platform for local farmers to engage with agricultural experts and engineers. By facilitating dialogues on improving irrigation management and optimising water utilisation, the programme underscored the significance of effective water management in agriculture.
Attendees learned about the benefits of modern irrigation techniques, which are essential for enhancing productivity and ensuring sustainability in farming practices.
Under the M-CADWM scheme, the Government of India has allocated a substantial budget of Rs 3,37,40,325 for the Lyngkhoi Flow Irrigation Project Cluster.
The programme was attended by local MLA Synshar K R Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner Rosetta Mary Kurbah and others.
