Shillong, May 14: The Meghalaya High Court on Thursday heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the condition of National Highway 6, specifically the 102km Jowai-Ratacherra stretch.
A fresh status report was presented up to May 10 to a division bench consisting of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh by the counsel appearing for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
According to the High Court, a perusal of the said status report lists the steps taken by NHAI with respect to the construction of work carried out on the Jowai-Ratacherra section of NH-6. It also lists the status of three locations, namely Byndihati, Tonseng and Ratacherra.
The court also stated that it appears that action has been taken against the contractors and penalty has been levied on them.
“It further appears that the slope stabilisation work is awarded to a third contractor and the work is presently ongoing,” the court stated.
However, other sections of the road, which are maintained by the state Public Works Department, continue to remain in a pathetic condition and the court directed the Additional Advocate General to ensure that the potholes be filled by the next date of hearing.
