Shillong, May 5: The Meghalaya Gymnastics Association (MGA) sent a contingent of five gymnasts to represent the state at the Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championship 2026–27 in Bhubeneswar.
The event ran from April 29 to May 3 and was organised by the Gymnastics Federation of India.
The state team comprised senior gymnasts Josephine Isabel Warjri, Bakmenhun Shangpliang, Wandalang Magdalene Malngiang, Athilia Susngi and Edeva Synnah. The coach was Arjun Singh Kwairakpam and Lucy Mary Malngiang was the manager.
The team did not secure medals but the overall performance of the gymnasts showed a huge improvement, the MGA said in a press release yesterday. “Moreover, participation in such a prestigious national platform has provided invaluable exposure to the gymnasts, enabling them to showcase their abilities and gain competitive experience against the country’s best gymnasts.”
The MGA thanked the Director of Sports and Youth Affairs for sponsorship and support to enable the gymnasts to take part in the national championship. The MGA said it remains confident that, with continued training and a dedicated gymnastics hall “as promised by our government” Meghalaya’s gymnasts will earn medals for the state in future competitions.
