Shillong, May 5: Mawlai SC drew 1-1 with FC Raengdai in their last Group A match of the 2025-26 I-League 3 today, which means that the Shillong team will not be able to progress to the next round.
Damanbhalang Chyne (16′) scored first at the Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal but Yendrembam Sobha Singh (79′) pulled the home team level in the second half.
Mawlai needed to win in order to keep their hopes of progressing alive. At the end of the group stage, the top team from each group, along with the two best second-placed teams, will qualify for the final round.
Mawlai coach Hering Shangpliang made two changes from the 1-1 draw against ARA FC two days ago, bringing in Danzel Derique Umdor and Ricky Chyne in place of Verjelous Shylla and Vincent Shyrmang.
In Mawlai’s first run in the All India Football Federation tournament, they secured 5 points with one win against Sikkim Brotherhood and the draws against ARA and Raengdai, finishing third in Group A. They lost just once to group leaders Sunrise Orissa.
The team will now be able to return to Meghalaya where Mawlai are attempting to defend their Meghalaya State League title. With most senior players in Imphal, Mawlai have been functioning with junior players in MSL 5 but will need a full strength squad as they ready themselves for the pre-quarterfinal round next week.
