      Shillong, Apr 22: The Meghalaya High Court on Wednesday heard two PILs on the Shillong Airport at Umroi.

      A division bench of the Meghalaya High Court consisting of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere, and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, stated that during the hearing N Mozika, Deputy Solicitor General of India, tendered a fresh status report on behalf of the Airports Authority of India.

      “From the said report it appears that Environment Clearance has been received from the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change on 28th March, 2026 for the proposed project expansion of the runway of the Shillong Airport,” the High Court stated.

      The Court said that work order for expansion of the Shillong Airport, including runway extension, expansion of Terminal Building and Apron and other allied works has been awarded to M/s KCC Buildcon Pvt. Ltd. on April 1, 2026.

      The Court also informed that from the work order it appears that the time allowed for carrying out the construction work will be 18 months (including 3 months considered for rains).

      According to the High Court the report stated that at the stakeholders’ meeting held on April 8, 2026 for evaluation of safety assessment for execution stage and that safety documents were prepared and have been sent to AAI, for vetting before submission to DGCA.

      Amit Kumar, Advocate General stated that the state will hand over the land to the Defence authorities at the earliest, in lieu of the land handed over by the Defence authorities to the State, for expansion of the runway, if not already done.

      Meanwhile, the High Court has directed that a fresh status report be submitted on June 17, 2026 the date fixed for next hearing.
