Shillong, Apr 17: The chairman of Green-Tech Foundation (GTF), H Bansiewdor Nonglang, who had been on an indefinite hunger strike over the proposed five-star resort on Umiam Lake, today agreed to be admitted to the hospital after his health continued to deteriorate.
However, Nonglang made it clear that the protest will continue in opposition to the government’s plans for the site.
Nonglang had been on an indefinite hunger strike since April 9 at Malki Ground to force the government to scrap the project.
While the foundation states that the five-star project would include construction at Lumpondeng Island, which will disturb the ecology of the area, the state government has insisted that there will be no permanent structures on the island.
The GTF chairman was accompanied by his supporters to Shillong Civil Hospital for treatment.
